Squarespace is a platform that makes it easy to create beautiful websites without needing any technical expertise. This tutorial will show you how you can easily install a SimpleMaps interactive map on your Squarespace website.

Just follow these instructions:

1. Choose the map you want to install:
   HTML5 World Map HTML5 US Map HTML5 Canada Map HTML5 North America Map HTML5 County Map HTML5 State Map HTML5 Custom Map HTML5 Europe Map HTML5 UK Map HTML5 Australia Map HTML5 Country Map

2. Customize your map using our online customization tool.

3. Host your map files, either:

   • Use our simple file-hosting (detailed instructions).

   • Self-host the files on SquareSpace (detailed instructions).

4. Copy the embedding code. It should look something like this:

   <script src="https://hosting.simplemaps.com/users/RANDOM_ID/mapdata.js"></script>
   <script src="https://hosting.simplemaps.com/users/RANDOM_ID/worldmap.js"></script>
   <div id="map"></div>
   

   Note: In the code you copy, RANDOM_ID will be an actual random string like 1245abcd

5. Login to your Squarespace account

6. Navigate to your pages and select the specific page where you wish to incorporate the map. Click on the "Edit" option.

   

7. Depending on your preference, you can either add a new section or insert a block. In this case, we'll add a block.

   

8. Choose the "Embed" option.

   

9. Once the embed code is inserted, click on "Edit".

   

10. Then, select "Code Snippet" and click on "Embed Data".

    

11. Paste your map embed code and select "Preview in Safe Mode".

    

12. You should now see the map on your website. Feel free to adjust the placement of the embed code block to position the map as desired.

Common Problem

Some Squarespace themes use AJAX loading. This can keep the map from loading properly. If you disable AJAX loading in your theme, the problem will go away. Squarespace has instructions on how to disable AJAX loading. If AJAX loading is required, please contact us for code and instructions to workaround this issue.

As of December, 2017, some cheaper SquareSpace plans no longer support Code Blocks. You can check whether your plan supports Code Blocks via this SquareSpace page. If your SquareSpace plan doesn't support Code Blocks you won't be able to use SimpleMaps (or any other third-party scripts). In this case, you should contact SquareSpace to upgrade (or complain!).
